NEW: Soldiers leave Fort Sill for holiday at home

By The Associated Press

LAWTON — Some 3,400 soldiers who have been training at Fort Sill are now headed home to spend the holidays with family and friends.

Col. Richard Bowyer says the soldiers are on “holiday block leave” until Jan. 2.

Bowyer says soldiers whose parents picked them up left at 1 p.m. Thursday. Another 1,440 are being taken by bus to Dallas for flights.

Others are flying out of Oklahoma City and Lawton.

Jefferson Bus Lines arranged for 40 buses from various companies to transport the soldiers.
