Local Red Cross chapter has 4 disaster responses in 24 hours

By Cass Rains, Staff Writer

A fatal house fire Friday morning was the fourth disaster response in a 24-hour period for Cimarron Valley Chapter of American Red Cross.

Executive Director Robin Unruh said the agency was providing food and shelter assistance for a man who lived in the apartment at 116 E. Walnut, which was left uninhabitable by fire. She said the agency also will provide rental assistance for the man.

Unruh said the chapter was assisting a three-member family in Drummond whose home was lost to fire, as well as a five-member family in Cherokee that lost their home to fire.

She said the town of Geary in Blaine County was without natural gas and representatives were providing shelter assistance and meals for those in need.

“It’s just the beginning of fire season and we’ve already assisted with three,” she said.

Financial donations can be made to American Red Cross or Cimarron Valley Chapter, 1223 W. Elm, Enid, OK, 73703.
