An 80-year-old man was found dead from natural causes in his jail cell early Wednesday morning.
Undersheriff Jerry Niles said Clifton Adkins was found dead during an hourly cell check about 1:20 a.m. at the Garfield County Detention Facility.
Niles said the state health department’s jail inspection division and state medical examiner’s officer were both called in accordance with state standards and Garfield County Sheriff’s Office polices and procedures manual.
Adkins was jailed on a bench warrant for failure to appear on a DUI.
