Nominations requested for next Pillar of the Plains
Enid News & Eagle is seeking nominations for the 2009 Pillar of the Plains award.
Pillar of the Plains was an honor created by the News & Eagle and community partners to honor local people who go above and beyond the call of service. The award was established in 2003.
“Enid and northwest Oklahoma are home to some very generous people,” said Cindy Allen, managing editor. “We established this award to recognize local people who have contributed so much to their communities.”
Past recipients are Becky Cummings, Dr. Charles Ogle, Janet Cordell, Bert Mackie, Lew Ward and Lee Thompson.
“Each of these individuals have given their time and service to make better some aspect of our quality of life here in Enid and surrounding area,” Allen said.
Anyone may make a nomination.
“We get nominations of people from all walks of life,” she said. “We have honored people who are active in their churches, with school groups or civic organizations. Pillar of the Plains has become a positive tradition in our community.”
This year’s finalists will be named Dec. 28. Selection of the winner will be in January.
