By Dec. 1, everyone in Enid should have new 96-gallon Polycarts in which to place their household trash at curbside.
Public Works Director Jim McClain said there only are about 2,500 Polycarts remaining to be distributed. Some additional carts may be purchased to accommodate those who have requested a second cart. McClain believes the 96-gallon carts will be sufficient for most residential use.
“We wanted to have them all done by Thanksgiving, but I don’t think we’re going to make it,” he said. “By (Dec. 1) we will have them all out.”
The Polycarts are for household bagged trash only. If residents recycle aluminum cans, plastic, cardboard and newspaper, the can will be large enough for nearly any use, he said. Instructions are on the inside of the lid of each cart. Those instructions inform residents of pick-up dates and what is allowed to be put into the carts and what is not. There also is a telephone number for any questions residents may have.
Yard clippings may be placed in the Polycarts as well, if there is room, or a resident can purchase a separate cart, which is green, and the city will pick it up. Yard waste placed into the green carts does not need to be bagged because it goes directly to compost and is not dumped into the landfill. Branches also may be placed in the green carts if they are cut small enough, no more than 15 inches in diameter, McClain said.
However, if a resident has a large load of branches and limbs, he or she can call the city to collect them at no charge, McClain said.
“We will come by and pick it up, and it won’t cost anything,” he said.
