An Enid man is facing 20 years to life for robbery after four prior felony convictions.
David Jesse Tettleton, 34, was arraigned Thursday on a single count of robbery by force. The charge is normally punishable by no less than 10 years in prison, but Tettleton faces at least twice that due to prior convictions.
According to an affidavit filed in the case, Tettleton was being followed by a man he allegedly robbed Nov. 13 in the 1600 block of East Maine. The man called police and said he was following Tettleton after Tettleton took painkillers he had dropped. The man told police when he bent over to pick up the pills, Tettleton knocked off his hat and shoved him to the ground.
When police arrived, Tettleton was in the vehicle of his alleged victim. A few blocks away, police located a van with a gas bill with Tettleton’s name on it and about 15 Vicodin in the seat. Police found a set of keys in the victim’s car where Tettleton was sitting and the keys were those to the van.
Tettleton took about 26 Vicodin and when interviewed by police could not give a plausible reason he was identified as the attacker and why the keys found near him started a vehicle registered to his mother.
Tettleton has prior convictions for drug possession, driving under the influence of alcohol, attempting to elude a police officer and driving under the influence, subsequent offense.
Tettleton is being held in lieu of $25,000 bond and was ordered to return to court Dec. 21 for a bond appearance.
