District Attorney Cathy Stocker said her office will protest each of the 19 inmates on this month’s regular docket of the state Pardon and Parole Board meeting.

Among those being protested is an Enid man who pleaded guilty in 1985 under an agreement to two counts of first-degree murder after the state presented its case at trial.

Terry D. Sittig is serving two life sentences, which were ordered to be served concurrently, for the murders of Carl Singer and Bobbie Bickham on June 15, 1985.

Prior to his convictions for murder, Sittig also had two previous felony convictions of second-degree burglary in 1982. The first burglary occurred in April of 1982 and Sittig was initially sentenced to probation. The second burglary occurred in November of 1982, while Sittig was on probation, and he was sentenced to serve two years in prison and four years on probation.

While on probation for the burglaries, Sittig committed the murders of Singer and Bickham.

Singer, a local business owner, and two other men, James Sherfield and Bickham, were at Singer’s home on June 15, 1985, when the doorbell rang about midnight.

Singer answered the door and moments later Sherfield heard Singer cry out for help. A man then entered the room where Sherfield and Bickham were. Sherfield was able to hide, and while in hiding, heard Bickham yell for help but Sherfield remained hidden.

Singer and Bickham were both murdered by the intruder and both men were killed by a stab wound. According to autopsies, Singer suffered 10 stab wounds and other injuries and Bickham suffered 21 stab wounds and multiple other injuries.

“This case was presented to a jury and after the state rested its case the defendant entered pleas of guilty pursuant to a negotiated plea agreement and the court sentenced him so,” Stocker said.
