A group of Enid marketing and communications professionals will gather at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the lectorium at Autry Technology Center for lunch, networking and to create a new professional organization.
ÒWe hope to create a network of professionals working in communications fields, such as public relations, advertising and marketing, to share knowledge, resources and provide educational opportunities,Ó said Tawny Dotson, one of the organizers.
Any member of the Enid community or its outlying areas who works in a communication or marketing function is welcome to attend. The meeting will focus on future subjects for meetings, feedback on needs and educational prospects.
ÒEnid has had a need for this kind of group for years,Ó said Molly Helm, director of communication and marketing at Autry. ÒWe have many professionals working in the marketing field, and forming an organization where we can share resources, network and learn from each other will benefit all of us and businesses for whom we work. It will be good for Enid.Ó
Often communicators in Enid turn to large agencies in Oklahoma City when contract work or larger projects are needed. By pooling resources the group hopes to keep Enid business here.
Organizers would like to create a group that will have regular meetings and provide such things as professional development events, assistance with accreditation in public relations and marketing, and networking opportunities for new members to the community in the communication and marketing fields. In addition, they hope the future will include job postings, awards programs and mentoring programs for local university students studying communications.
ÒThe possibilities are endless,Ó said Sara Habibi, marketing and event coordinator for Wymer Brownlee and co-organizer of the group. ÒNow is a great time to build camaraderie between local communicators to enhance business opportunities.Ó
