An Enid man faces a maximum 10-year sentence following a Halloween beer buy orchestrated by Garfield County Sheriff’s Office.
Felony charges of sale of beer to a minor, third offense within one year, were filed this week against 63-year-old Fawzi Subhi Mahmud. Each count is punishable by up no more than five years in prison and a fine of up to $5,000.
Mahmud failed to appear for his arraignment on the charges after posting a $1,000 cash bond and a $1,000 recognizance bond. Special District Judge Paul Wood-ward ordered a bench warrant and bond forfeiture when Mahmud did not appear in court Thursday morning.
According to an affidavit filed in the case, Mahmud sold two 12-packs of Coors beer to two 19-year-olds who were working with the sheriff’s office in the sting operation.
Deputies sent the two volunteers with marked $20 bills into Grand Central Station, 2305 N. Grand, with each purchasing beer without Mahmud asking to see identification, according to the affidavit.
According to court re-cords, Mahmud pleaded no contest June 15 on two misdemeanor counts of sale of 3.2 beer to a minor, receiving a six-month suspended sentence.
