Three episodes of the popular Math Mania program had to be canceled earlier this month due to a leak in the PEGASYS studio at Cherokee Strip Conference Center.
Wendy Quarles, executive director, said during recent rainstorms a severe leak in Studio B resulted in cancellation of the program. PEGASYS staff members covered equipment and took some cameras to another studio. They also protected the control room with plastic sheeting. She said the only major damage was to the carpeting and several ceiling tiles.
Leaks were experienced again Oct. 20, but PEGASYS was able to do Math Mania, an afternoon program on the public-access television station by two Enid teachers who take calls from students and help them with their math problems.
Quarles said PEGASYS officials are waiting for roof repairs and carpet replacement. She said the city of Enid is negotiating with a local company to determine responsibility for the leak, which came in around air-conditioning vents.
PEGASYS also established a pay-for-view system, which they will be marketing nationwide.
They currently are offering lectures by OU scholar Dr. J.R. Fears and have made more than $1,200 on that service, plus DVD sales.
Payments may be made by check, cash or Paypal for unlimited viewing of all offerings of the Fears Legacy of Freedom lecture series. The series includes the fall and spring series. DVDs are $45 each.
Quarles attended a Sarkeys Foundation workshop at Autry Technology Center to learn the foundation’s grant application requirements.
The board also approved financial reports during its regular monthly meeting.
