Native American Week will be observed next week, and Enid Intertribal Indian Club will bring several events to Enid in honor of the observance.
All events are free and open to the public.
The first event will be a Sunday morning worship service with American Indian influence at First United Methodist Church. The special event is meant to recognize and support the contributions of American Indians to the church and to society. Worship services will be 8:30 a.m. and 10:50 a.m.
Funds collected during the service will allow First United Methodist Church to partner with existing American Indian ministries and create programs on behalf of Americans Indians.
An American Indian food tasting event will be 6 p.m. Tuesday at Northwestern Oklahoma State University-Enid in the Commons Area. Food will be prepared by Enid Intertribal Indian Club members, and samples will include fry bread, grape dumplings, beef and corn soup, pork and hominy.
A gourd dance will be held Nov. 7 at Cherokee Strip Conference Center. The event will begin at 3 p.m., and a meal will be served at 5:30 p.m.
Head singer for the gourd dancing event will be Ernest Toppah, head lady dancer will be Shanell Dent, head gourd dancer will be Ronnie Bosin, emcee will be Frank Carson, arena director will be John Shotten and co-host will be Red Rock Creek.
