Woodward man faces stalking charge

By Joe Malan, Staff Writer

A Woodward man faces a possible sentence of up to five years in jail after he was accused of harassing a woman.

Christopher Austin Duncan, 27, was arraigned Thursday on a felony count of stalking.

According to an affidavit filed in the case, a woman called Garfield County Sheriff’s Office Sept. 18 to a housing complex in Drummond. The woman told police Duncan had called her more than 20 times in the past two days and kept harassing her and cussing at her over the phone.

Police had served Duncan a protective order Sept. 9, which said he could not contact the woman in person or by phone, according to court documents.

While a deputy was talking with the woman, she showed Duncan had called her more than 20 times since then. He also had locked her MySpace page so she couldn’t access it. Duncan also called the woman once while the deputy was with her, according to the affidavit.

On Oct. 6, the woman again contacted the sheriff’s office saying Duncan continued to call and text message her on her cell phone. He had called her more than 40 times in the last two to three weeks. Duncan also threatened her and said he would kill her and anybody with her, according to the affidavit.

Duncan’s bond was set at $2,000 Thursday with a bond appearance set for Dec. 7.
