School to dedicate gym to Hoffsomer
Hillsdale Christian School will pay tribute to its founder Oct. 4 when it dedicates the school gymnasium to James Hoffsomer.
The event will be 2:30-4 p.m., with a dedication, ribbon cutting and reception.
ÒWe recently had the 40-plus-year-old gym floor replaced and are dedicating the new floor to Mr. Hoffsommer to honor his commitment to education in our area,Ó said Melanie Gray, director of development for the school.
Hoffsommer is a Hillsdale native. He attended, taught, coached and principaled at Hillsdale Public Schools prior to consolidation with Krem-lin. He formed one of the first middle schools in Oklahoma after the consolidation.
In the late 1970s the schools were moved to Kremlin to form the now Kremlin-Hillsdale school district.
With the Hillsdale building vacant, Hoffsommer and others in the community felt there was a need for a Christian school opportunity, Gray said, and pooled their money to purchase the property. In 1982, Hillsdale Christian School was opened.
ÒMr. Hoffsommer has been an active part of the school since inception, serving as board president for many years, then stepping in as interim administrator for the 2008-2009 school year,Ó Gray said.
