Covington police arrested a Stillwater man Thursday night on complaints of felony drug trafficking when he allegedly tossed more than 3 ounces of crystal meth from his vehicle before being stopped.
Covington Police Chief Cory Rink said he and reserve officer Michael Garcia were conducting traffic control about 10 p.m. when they spotted a 2005 Ford Mustang with its tag light out.
“I began to initiate a traffic stop and he threw stuff out the window,” Rink said.
Rink said he, Garcia and deputies from Garfield County Sheriff’s Office recovered two packages thrown from the vehicle. The first contained syringes and the second contained about 3.9 ounces of crystal methamphetamine, he said. Rink said the estimated value of the drugs was about $6,000.
Michael Decker, 54, was arrested on complaints of trafficking in methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and littering. Rink said he seized the drugs, syringes and Decker’s 2005 Mustang GT.
Rink said Decker was coming through the town on Oklahoma 74 and went about a block and a half before stopping, while throwing the drugs and syringes from the car.
“He threw the meth right out in front of the police station,” Rink said. “I didn’t have to go very far.”
