No school Friday due to conferences



There will be no school Friday at Covington-Douglas Schools for parent-teacher conferences.

The girls softball team will participate in the district tournament Thursday and Friday at Frontier.

The Lady Cats placed third in a tournament Sept. 19 at Buffalo. Covington-Douglas beat Laverne and Beaver, but lost twice to Fort Supply and once to Sharon-Mutual.

The fifth- through eighth-grade and junior varsity football teams will play Monday at Ringwood, with games starting at 7:30 p.m.

The high school football team will play at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Coyle.

Covington-Douglas FFA and 4-H members placed well at the Garfield County Fair. Top honors were reserve grand champion breeding gilt and junior swine showmanship, Gavyn Reim; intermediate swine showmanship, Quentin Thayer; reserve grand champion market hog, Brandon Wright; first in tractor driving, Zack Finlayson; and top individual in crop judging, Dakota Schoeling.

The crop judging team of Schoeling, Cliff Jones, Quentin Thayer and Harley Adams placed second. Jones was fourth individually, Thayer sixth and Adams was eighth.

Sept. 19, Reim was the only student from Covington-Douglas showing in the livestock show at the Oklahoma State Fair. He showed the champion duroc barrow and third-place heavyweight cross gilt.

Covington-Douglas Board of Education met Sept. 8. They approved WoodsMore Enterprises for athletic training services for fall sports.

Members of the board also approved rental contracts and a bid for a school camera system for $14,557. They accepted Van Williams’ resignation and voted to hire Zandra Halcomb as a support employee and bus driver.

Church

First Baptist Church will host fall festival Sunday through Wednesday.

Service will begin at 7 p.m. each day. Music will be provided by Dave Roberts and the Temple Praise Band. Evangelist will be Tim Green.

Sunday morning will be Round Up Sunday. Bible Study will begin at 9:45 a.m., with morning worship at 10:45 a.m. There will be a free dinner at noon.

On Tuesday, there will be a kids special at 6:30 p.m. with a clown presentation by John and Yvonne Doffer. On Wednesday, there will be a youth rally with Craig Bruyn at 6:15 p.m.

Sunday evening will be pack a pew night; Monday will be bring a friend night; Tuesday will be family night; and Wednes-day will be youth night. There will be a free evening meal served at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall Monday through Wednesday. Nursery will be provided for children up to 3. A love offering will be taken at each service.
