Wal-Mart awards several teachers
Instead of awarding one area teacher a big prize, Enid’s Wal-Mart decided this year to award several local teachers slightly smaller prizes.
“Every year Wal-Mart has a teacher of the year presentation where we democratically select one teacher out of the area to honor,” said Charles Moore, Enid Wal-Mart store manager. “This year Wal-Mart has reconstructed how we do that process.”
Moore said Wal-Mart decided to take the overall award of $1,000 and divide it up among several teachers.
Tuesday afternoon, the names of 10 Longfellow Middle School teachers were drawn at random and each winning teacher received a $100 Wal-Mart gift card to buy classroom supplies.
Those teachers winning gift cards were Sheila Collins, Marilyn Johnson, Jim Ebel, Mary Coats, Wilma Robinson, Dena Haselwander, Scott Baugh, Paul Cash, Bill Owings and Mary Fischaber.
“I’m very appreciative of Wal-Mart,” said Longfellow Principal Ron Few. “The teachers are all very deserving.”
Another local teacher also was the recent recipient of a Wal-Mart award.
Jill Stuever, of Monroe Elementary School, recently was one of 10 teachers in the nation to receive a $500 Wal-Mart teacher award.
