Monroe’s 5th-graders participate in art show at Park Avenue Thrift

ENID, Okla. — Three classrooms full of fifth-graders from Monroe Elementary School got to enjoy an art show at Park Avenue Thrift Wednesday afternoon.

The 54 students critiqued others’ artwork, enjoyed refreshments and created a new, communal drawing.

Ckyler Taylor, a student in Traci Layton’s class, choose Cheyenne Voelker’s marker and colored pencil work, “Lily of the Valley” to critique.

“If you look at it, you’ve got the green that goes good with the purple,” Ckyler said. “It reminded me of the colors of the sunset.”

Ckyler is the son of John Taylor and April Meeks.

Students of Desiree Highburger and Amy Skaggs also were among the students enjoying the art show.

Layton said the fifth-graders were permitted to enter their favorite art for the show. They mounted their art for display, and the pieces were hung in the Emerging Artist Gallery at Park Avenue.

“When you exhibit it and it stands out in a place, looking at it helps develop an appreciation,” Layton said of the experience her students got.
