KINGFISHER —
An air ambulance helicopter crashed in a field southeast of Kingfisher Thursday night, killing two aboard.
According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the crash occurred about 7:45 p.m. four miles south and one and a half miles east of Kingfisher.
Aboard the EagleMed flight were a pilot, nurse and EMT. No patients were onboard during the flight at the time of the crash.
The names of those on the flight were not immediately available late Thursday night. Representatives of Federal Aviation Administration and Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation also were on the scene.
An FAA spokesman said the survivor of the crash was taken back to an Oklahoma City hospital for treatment, but he was unaware of the person’s condition.
“The helicopter had apparently departed the Integris Baptist Medical Center helipad in Oklahoma City and was on its way to Okeene Hospital when the crash occurred,” said Lynn Lunsford, FAA spokesman for the Southwest Regional Operations Center in Fort Worth.
He said the scene of the crash likely will be secured until investigators can arrive this morning and begin their investigation into what caused the crash.
“The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash because it is a fatality accident and the FAA will be part of that team,” Lunsford said.
