The city of Enid will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 2:30 p.m. Wednes-day to dedicate improvements to Wheat Capital Road, which also will include a new gate at Vance Air Force Base.
The event will be held on Wheat Capital Road, a half-mile west of U.S. 81. Parking will be available on the newly paved roadway. The public is invited.
Gov. Brad Henry will be featured speaker.
The $3 million improvement of Wheat Capital Road has been a joint effort of the city of Enid, Vance Development Authority, Vance Air Force Base, Oklahoma Strategic Military Planning Commission and the state of Oklahoma.
The project will provide enhanced access to the new Armed Forces Reserve Center, soon to be constructed at Vance.
State Sen. Patrick Anderson, R-Enid, praised the completion of the road and said it will help fortify the importance and viability of Vance in the future.
“One of the main uses was to build the road so they can relocate all the armories in northwest Oklahoma to Vance Air Force Base. That is significant for northwestern Oklahoma and the Enid community,” Anderson said.
State Rep. John Enns said the gate will help protect the base and assist in operations, and the new armory will be a “huge” boost for Vance.
