Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center kicks off its summer programming, “Come Home to the Village” this week when its director, Dr. Sally Soelle, presents “Art for the Public: New Deal Murals in Northwest Oklahoma Communities,” an illustrated lecture on the post office and courthouse murals created in Oklahoma during the years of the Great Depression.
She will focus attention on two that were executed in this region, the ranching mural in Perry and the trails murals in the Garfield County Court House. Following the presentation, those who are interested may join the speaker for a tour of the six murals in the courthouse on the Square.
Her presentation begins at noon Wednesday in the village church at Humphrey Heritage Village and is free and open to the public.
