Students get to see their work on display at Scribner’s

Enid High School’s Advanced Placement art students will have the chance to showcase their work thanks to Scribner’s Gallery and Studio in Enid.

The exhibit opens tonight with a reception from 7-10 at Scribner’s. The public is encouraged to attend the event.

“We welcome all attendees,” said Jena Kodesh, EHS AP art instructor.

Kodesh’s students are accomplished high school artists who didn’t just “sign up” to be in AP art. AP art students must be accepted into the class.

“Their portfolios are sent off and reviewed in New York City by art professors,” Kodesh said.

The artwork will be on display at Scribner’s for several weeks and also will be for sale.

Ten percent of the proceeds will benefit Youth and Family Services therapeutic foster care/art program.

“Art to help art,” Kodesh said.

The rest of the sale proceeds benefit the artists directly.

“Every year we have some student sales and it’s just something that makes them feel special,” Kodesh said.

While many artists wait their entire lives to have their work exhibited, Scribner’s has given EHS students, and other students around the community, many chances to show their work over the past few years.

“I just can’t say enough good things about Scribner’s,” Kodesh said. “They really want to help the community.”

EHS junior Dominique Midgett transferred into AP art for the second semester of the year. Even though she said her “best stuff” won’t be on display this time, she still hopes she might make a sale.

“Hopefully, maybe (I’ll sell) something and make some money so I can buy more art supplies,” she said.

Not only is the show a chance to make a little cash, but Kodesh said it is a learning experience.

“It teaches them how to get ready for a show and what all goes into a show,” Kodesh said.
