OKLAHOMA CITY — Gov. Brad Henry has signed legislation that will give motorists more time to renew their driver’s license.
The measure by Rep. John Trebilcock of Broken Arrow allows an expired Oklahoma driver’s license to be considered a valid form of identification for the purpose of renewing the license up to 30 days past expiration.
Under current law, an expired driver’s license is not a valid ID and cannot be used to establish identification when seeking to renew the license.
Trebilcock says it’s easy for people to forget about the expiration date of their license because you renew it only once every four years.
He says the problem with expired licenses was cited by more of his constituents than any other when he was campaigning last year.
