Autry Tech estate planning course slated Thursday



Autry Technology Center will present its annual estate planning course, “Planning Your Estate,” Thursday.

The class is designed to equip participants with the knowledge needed to plan their personal estates and will provide an overview of the basics of the estate-planning process, including wills, powers of attorney, living wills and other basic estate planning and family protection concepts.

Instructor for the course will be Enid attorney Gary L. Brown. Brown is a frequent speaker in the areas of trusts and estate planning and a member of American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Vance to exercise emergency management program



Monday through Thursday Vance Air Force Base will exercise its emergency management program, during which a variety of emergency scenarios could be simulated.

Some exercises may include the use of sirens or loudspeakers. These exercise responses could impact gate traffic and movement on base. Anyone traveling to the base during that time period should plan extra driving time.



DCLA FFA and 4-H labor auction is Sunday



Deer Creek-Lamont labor auction will be Sunday in the FFA building at DCLA High School.

FFA and 4-H will host a benefit lunch at noon. Cost is by donation. Menu includes chili, ham and beans and cornbread, followed by the labor auction at 1:30 p.m. and a local show at 3.



Cancer Support Group meeting slated Feb. 26



Finding loving support for cancer patients and their caregivers will be the focus for the Feb. 26 meeting of Enid’s Cancer Support Group. The meeting will be 4-5:30 p.m. at Central Christian Church, 1111 W. Broadway.

A “listening ministry” will be introduced, in which cancer patients or caregivers can talk with a person who has gone through similar experiences. For example, a woman in her 40s with breast cancer, might like to talk with another woman who has gone through breast cancer treatment, said the Rev. Don Johnson, associate pastor of Central Christian. Similarly, a man taking care of his wife, who is struggling with advanced cancer, might like to talk with another man who helped his wife and family deal with these difficult times.

“With cancer patients and their caretakers, each month brings its own set of challenges and opportunities,” said John-son, who also is facilitator of the community cancer support group that meets monthly.

Each month, Central Christian Church hosts a meeting for cancer patients, cancer survivors, their families and caregivers. Meetings are designed for spiritual support, outreach and education to those facing cancer. Johnson encourages anyone with a cancer diagnosis, or who is caring for a cancer patient, to join the support group. Emmanual to sponsor blood drive Sunday



Emmanual Baptist Church will sponsor a blood drive Sunday with Northwest Oklahoma Blood Institute.

The bloodmobile will be at the church, 2505 W. Garriott, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.

Donors must be at least 17. Along with free health screenings and Members for Life points to redeem at Oklahoma Blood Institute’s online store, donors will receive a free license tag bracket.
