County rural assessments to begin Tuesday

Garfield County Assessor Wade Patterson and his staff will begin assessments in rural communities Tuesday.

Patterson is required by Oklahoma statutes to make the trips to towns each year to allow residents to assess their personal property. All personal property assessments must be filed by March 15.

“It’s not as prevalent as it used to be,” Patterson said. “We send them a list of assets they can update and send back to us.”

The assessment also is a time to file for homestead exemption, double homestead and senior valuation freeze. To be eligible for valuation freeze, residents must be 65 or older and have no more than $49,300 gross household income. Double homestead exemption is for people making gross income of $20,000 or less and has no age restriction.

Patterson’s schedule, with community, time and phone number for information, is:

• Bison, 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, 758-3694.

• Carrier, 9:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday, 855-2200

• Douglas, 9:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday, 862-7222.

• Hillsdale, 1-3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Hillsdale Christian School, 635-2211.

• Fairmont, 1-3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Fairmont Co-op.

• Covington, 1-3:30 p.m. Jan. 22, city hall, 864-7428.

• Enid, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., through March 15, assessor’s office, 237-0220.

• Garber, 1-3:30 p.m. Jan. 22, city hall, 863-2254.

• Kremlin, 9:30 a.m. to noon Jan. 22, Kremlin-Hillsdale High School library; 874-2281.

• Hunter, 1:30-3:30 p.m. Jan. 22, Senior Citizens Building.
