Glen McIntyre will give the latest lecture in the Oklahoma history series “Oklahoma From the Ground Up” at noon Wednesday in the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center outreach space in Oakwood Mall.
The outreach location is next to JCPenney.
McIntyre’s talk will cover 1907-1920 and will discuss the challenges faced by Charles Haskell, Oklahoma’s first governor, and the first Oklahoma Legislature, including starting a school system, starting up the judicial system and putting in place the mechanism for financing the government.
His talk also will cover moving the state Capitol from Guthrie to Oklahoma City and the impact of the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918 on Oklahoma. The epidemic killed millions worldwide.
The talk is free and open to the public.
