Republican state Rep. Mike Jackson, representing District 40, was re-elected to a third term Tuesday, polling about 75 percent of the vote.
Jackson, whose district comprises most of Enid, polled 8,879 votes unofficially to 2,940 for Democrat Pierce Jones. Jackson’s margin of victory was similar to his win over Jones two years ago.
“Throughout the last four years I’ve done the best I could serving Enid and Oklahoma. I’m honored and humbled they sent me back with such an overwhelming majority,” Jackson said.
Jackson said he thinks his message of continuing to work in the areas of education, transportation and energy resonated with voters, and he looks forward to the 52nd Legislature.
“I think we will accomplish a lot in the next two years,” he said.
Jackson said the campaign felt good all along. As he talked with constituents and knocked on doors, he began to feel he had done a good job communicating with his constituents.
“I hope to continue to do that in the future,” he said.
Garfield County Election Board officials could not say early Tuesday if there was a record voter turnout, but lines at every precinct were long. Long lines also formed at the Garfield County Election Board during early voting Friday, Saturday and Monday.
With voters during the noon hour Tuesday having to wait 45 to 50 minutes, the pastor at West Willow Community Church, which hosts Precinct 304, bought several pizzas and offered slices to the about 60-80 people standing in line. Shortly before noon, the waiting line meandered up and down the Sunday school wing of the church, through the lobby and out the double doors toward the church parking lot.
