Brothers charged with stabbing, beating man with hoe

By Cass Rains, Staff Writer

Charges have been filed against two brothers accused of stabbing another man and beating him with a garden hoe last week.

Jabier Harvey Flores, 23, and Ray Flores, 20, have been charged with felony assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

According to the charges, which were filed Wednesday along with warrants for the brothers’ arrests, the men are accused of attacking Orlando Pena Morales.

Morales, 32, was charged with felony possession of controlled substance, after police found cocaine in Morales’ pocket following the attack.

According to an affidavit, Enid police officers responded to a stabbing at 1601 E. Oklahoma about 6:53 a.m. Sunday.

Police found Morales in blood-stained clothes, bleeding from his forehead and with a stab wound to his lower back, according to the affidavit. Morales told police he was drinking with a friend at the residence who was arguing with two other men when he decided to “step in.” Morales said he was hit on the head with a garden hoe and blacked out.

Morales said he did not remember getting stabbed but said it was Jabier who had hurt him, the affidavit states. Morales’ friend told police Jabier was arguing with Morales and he saw Jabier with a knife. The man said he also saw Ray with a garden hoe. He said the next thing he saw was Morales on the ground.

Police found two plastic bags containing a white powdery substance in the pockets of Morales’ pants, which were cut off and left at the residence by EMTs who had treated Morales for his wounds.

Morales was arraigned on the felony drug charge Friday and released on a $1,000 recognizance bond.

According to online court records, Jabier and Ray Flores have not been arrested. Warrants for their arrest show a $20,000 bond for each man.
