Scouts to Rendezvous today

Nearly 1,000 Boy Scouts and their adult leaders will gather at Williams Scout Reservation in Cleo Springs this weekend for Great Southern Plains Rendezvous.

The event includes two nights of camping and activities for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Explorers, Varsity Teams and Venture Crews.

This is the largest gathering of Boy Scouts in northwest Oklahoma, according to organizers.

“We’re expecting a really energetic event,” said Jeremy Barnes, district executive of Cimarron Council.

Events began Friday with registration and camp setup.

Scouts will rise early today to begin a variety of activities, including unit elections and individual competitions.

Kwahadi Dancers, a unique youth performing group of American Indian dancers from Amarillo, Texas, will present a colorful performance of dance, song and stories at 1 p.m. today.

At 5 p.m., Scouts will have a community dinner. Evening activities include more elections and training.

The youths will get up early again Sunday for a Scout Vesper Service and awards ceremony before leaving camp.
