Junior Welfare League of Enid presented checks totaling $40,000 to nine organizations Monday night at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church.
“This is always an exciting evening for us; being able to help people is what we are here for,” said Kelly Gwin, Junior Welfare League parliamentarian.
“The 2007 Charity Gala raised enough money that we are able to assist nine very worthy organizations this year.”
Booker T. Washington Community Center, Christ-mas in Action, Compassio-nate Quilters Group, Enid Fire Department/Local Emer-gency Planning Committee, Hedges Regional Speech and Hearing Center, Leonardo’s Discovery Warehouse, Nor-thern Oklahoma Develop-ment Authority, Sandbox Learning Center and Youth and Family Services of North Central Oklahoma were recipients of the funds raised from the Junior Welfare League’s 2007 Charity Gala.
The organizations completed grant requests, and submitted them in December to the Junior Welfare League Disbursements Committee for consideration. This year JWL had more than 24 applications asking for more than $130,000 in grants.
To be eligible for a grant, the funds must be used for the benefit of the Enid community, and requests are not considered for fundraising drives, building fund/capital campaigns, mileage reimbursement, travel expenses, an individual’s scholarship, an individual’s research project, salaries or budgets.
