PEGASYS board members, officers elected

By Robert Barron Staff Writer

New board member and officers were elected for the upcoming year during PEGASYS’ regular monthly meeting Tuesday.

Jerry Butler was named chairman, while Terry DeBock was named vice chairman, Lori Coonrod secretary and Jim Butricks treasurer. The officers will preside over the PEGASYS board of directors for the next year. Ed Vineyard served as president in 2007.

The public-access television station also honored its volunteers during the meeting at Cherokee Strip Conference Center, recognizing them according to the number of hours they have donated to PEGASYS.

Volunteers and hours were: Jim Butricks, 279; Dennis L. Long, 207; Steve Wilson, 150; June Butricks, 130; Leon Gilbert, 121.5; G.E. Majors, 115.5; Warren Edds, 104; Angela Caywood, 81; Teresa Willems, 77; Vada Gilbert, 50.5; Nadine Swart, 46; Jack Holt, 33; R.J. Philbrick, 15; Terry Chick, 14; Philip Shearer, 13; and Jerry Flynn, 10.

PEGASYS received a $2,000 grant from Enid Community Foundation to fund an exercise program for seniors. Executive Director Wendy Quarles met with Senior Life Network and Kay Grey, of the Osteopathic Foundation, to begin plans for the program.

Suddenlink Communications has notified PEGASYS it no longer will receive free Internet service. Quarles said the same notification has been sent to schools and other nonprofit organizations that traditionally have received free Internet from the cable television provider. The cost to PEGASYS will be $139 a month. Quarles said that is high and PEGASYS may have to look to some other source.

Financially, PEGASYS has $11,745 in commercial checking accounts, $183,126 in a prime plus account, $207,261 in the Enid Community Foundation agency fund and $55 in petty cash, for a total of $402,188.74. That figure is down $6,000 from December.
