$100,000 bond set on DUI

An Enid man is being held in lieu of $100,000 bond after appearing before a judge on a complaint of driving under the influence three days after posting $1,000 bond on a DUI charge from the previous week.

Special District Judge Paul Woodward told Eric B. Schoen-hals he likely was going to kill someone else or himself if he continued his behavior before setting bond.

The charge, which probably will be filed early next week, will make the third pending drinking and driving charge for Schoen-hals.

Schoenhals was stopped by Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper John Marion Thursday. Marion filed an affidavit with Garfield County District Attor-ney’s Office, but charges had not been prepared by Friday morning.

Schoenhals’ previous arrest happened Oct. 14, after police received a report of a possible drunken driver in the 1000 block of East Garriott who had hit a curb.

Police tried to stop Schoenhals in the 300 block of West Garriott before he pulled into a parking lot in the 600 block of West Garriott, making too wide a right turn and driving over the curb, according to an affidavit. Schoenhals pulled too far into a parking space and hit a tree.

Schoenhals got out of his car and almost fell down, according to the affidavit. The officer noted he had an odor of alcohol about him and was lethargic. He also noted it appeared Schoenhals had urinated on himself.

When the officer asked for his driver’s license and insurance, Schoenhals handed the officer his keys.

Schoenhals initially said he’d had nothing to drink but said he had taken his medication. He handed the officer a bottle of Alprazoalm, only one of which is to be taken at time, according to instructions on the bottle. People who take it also are advised not to drive and that alcohol would increase drowsiness, the affidavit states.

Schoenhals said he had taken “about three” pills, and when asked how much he had drank he said, “not enough,” the affidavit states. He refused to take a sobriety test.

Another officer at the scene said there were open bottles of alcohol in Schoenhals’ vehicle.

Schoenhals was charged with felony DUI subsequent offense Oct. 17 and had posted a $1,000 bond Monday.

He also was charged with a felony DUI, subsequent offense, after being stopped by Enid police July 26.

Schoenhals was stopped for driving left of center and hitting a patrol car, according to an affidavit.

He admitted to an officer he had been drinking and told him to “take me to jail” after giving the officer his keys, according to the affidavit. He also refused to take a sobriety test during that stop.
