Covington United Metho-dist Church will hold a “Take the Plunge” vacation Bible school kickoff party, from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday, with water games, ice cream floats and pictures with T.J. the Penguin on the church lawn. Vacation Bible school will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. July 16-19, for ages 4 through 6th grade. “Take the Plunge” will include many Bible stories with water.
The VBS program will be held July 20 at 7 p.m., followed by refreshments.

St. John’s Lutheran Church will hold vacation Bible school — “Avalanche Ranch, a Wild Ride through God’s Word,” — beginning July 30 and running through Aug. 3 for children 4 through 6th grade. An Avalanche Ranch prospectors church wagon feed VBS kickoff will be held 5 to 7 p.m. July 29.

Community
Covington had three reasons for celebrating the Fourth of July — the nation’s independence, Oklahoma’s Centennial and Covington’s Centennial. American Le-gion Post 190 served a meal at the city park the evening of July Fourth. Later, Lions Club served watermelon. Games were played in the park including a chipping contest and basketball. At dusk there was a fireworks display sponsored by Cov-ington Lions.

The annual Covington-Douglas Booster Club Golf Tournament, held June 23 at Rolling Meadows Golf Course, raised $2,995 for Covington-Douglas High School athletes. Forty-four golfers participated with A Flight recording 14 under par for first place. Team members were Dave Cagel, Dan Cagel, Larry Perks and Wayne Foster. Second place A Flight team members were Gene Betchan, Hayden Betchan, Don Betchan and Allen Grub.
First place B Flight had a score of one under par. Members were Wendel Knouse, Charley Delozior, Shane Harves and Brian Candonge. Second place B Flight scored one under par, and included, Jerry Knouse, Bill Honeyman, Phillip Young and Terry Layton. Dave Cagel won the putting contest. No hole-in-one prizes were won.
Brandon Schram helped with the cooking and Brenda Schram drove the refreshment cart. Jim and Linda Postier and Mike Schram helped with the tournament.
