Derwin Norwood Jr. was elected president of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Commission during the group’s March meeting.
Norwood is the representative from Southern Heights Community Organization. Stephanie Wnetrzak, representing PEGASYS, was elected vice president.
After an evaluation of this year’s MLK celebration, $600 was donated to Inter-Racial Women’s Club’s Martin Luther King Jr., Scholarship Fund. The scholarship will provide $300 for two semesters.
Commission representation recently was broadened to include Southern Heights Community Organization and Inter-Racial Women’s Club. Lisa Orosco represents the Hispanic community.
Previous chairman Jerry Galbreath, Community Relations Committee representative, and board member Mary Shaklee, representing the Public Library of Enid and Garfield County, have completed their terms, and representatives will be named by the Enid City Commission in May.
