Enid Writers Club met May 11 during its annual banquet and named winners of its writing contest. Those winners were:
• Short story — first place, Judy Huhman for “Missing Identities,” and second place, Chantell Tiatrakul for “Locked in Time.”
• Essay — first , Martha Hatt for “That Down Home Feeling”; second, Bobbie Mardis for “The Joys of Car Pooling;” and third, Marsha Kay Oldham for “Help is on the Way.”
• Feature article — first, Marilyn Kennedy, “The Surprise in the Attic,” and Martha Draper for “Clowning.”
• Poetry (rhymed) — first, Maxine Austin, “Greening Time,” and Marsha Kay Oldham for “If at First.”
• Inspiration (prose) — first, Marilyn Kennedy for “The Angel in the Ashes;” second, Marsha Kay Oldham for “Nativity;” and third, Maxine Austin for “God Knew.”
• Children’s story — first, Marsha Kay Oldham for “Sally’s Vacation,” and second, Chantell Tiatrakul for “Trash Can Wars.”
Four categories had only one entry. Marsha Kay Oldham was awarded honorary third-place prizes in those categories.
The Best of the Best Award in prose was given to Judy Huhman for “Missing Identities” and Maxine Austin in poetry for “Greening Time.” Both will be read at the picnic June 8.
