Inmate faces additional 10-40 years
A Garfield County Detention Facility inmate is facing an additional 10 to 40 years for illegally possessing a razor blade in the jail.
Adam Fletcher Young, 42, was charged Tuesday with felony possession of contraband/weapon by an inmate for having a toothbrush with a razor blade attached to it in his cell, according to court documents.
On Dec. 30, a shakedown of cells at the detention facility revealed a toothbrush that “had a razor blade on it where the brushes should have been,” according to an affidavit. The toothbrush was found in cell A-2, of which Young is the sole occupant.
Young is awaiting trial on two other cases, attempted escape from jail and trafficking in a controlled dangerous substance.
Young was arrested in January 2005 after admitting the twin-engine plane he landed at Enid Woodring Regional Airport was loaded with marijuana.
The Brenham, Texas, resident was met by federal agents when he landed at Woodring to refuel. He initially confronted them with a knife but eventually surrendered without incident.
After Young admitted there were drugs on the plane, an Enid police K-9 checked it, alerting to the odor of narcotics. A subsequent search of the plane turned up 431 pounds of marijuana in the rear passenger compartment, the affidavit states.
The street value of the marijuana was estimated to be more than $300,000.
Young could be sentenced to life in prison if convicted of trafficking because of two 2002 convictions in Texas for theft of property greater than $20,000.
Bond for the newest charge was set at $5,000 for Young to return to court March 24 for a bond appearance.
