Enid has slight chance of snow tonight

ENID, Okla. — The Enid area has a slight chance for snow tonight as cold air moves into the area.

Mike Honigsberg, certified director of Enid/Garfield County Emergency Management, said lows tonight should be in the 20s, with northwest wind at 15-25 mph, with some higher gusts.

Severe weather rolled in at around 6 a.m. today, with rainfall reports of .5 of an inch to 1.5 inches in the southeast part of the county, he said.

“No flooding issues have been reported,” Honigsberg said. “Hail sizes in the eastern half of the county ranged from dime to quarter size during the severe portion of this event ...”

No hail was reported in Enid, and Honigsberg said the city received around an half inch of rain.

The storms knocked out power to more than 1,700 people in Enid, while another 340 were without power in Hennessey.

John Little, regional manager for OG&E, said the outage lasted about two hours in Enid. A crossarm along a major circuit broke about 7 a.m. and was out about two hours.

“After the first hour, we got about 700 people on. The rest came during the rest of the two hours,” Little said.

In Hennessey, a broken pole resulted in a 45-minute outage that affected about 340 people, Little said.
