If you are applying for an absentee ballot for the Feb. 12 school and municipal elections, applying early is a good idea.
Roy Schneider, secretary of Garfield County Election Board, said applications for absentee ballots will be accepted until 5 p.m. Feb. 6. Absentee ballots also are available at Garfield County Election Board office, 903 Failing, and can be downloaded and printed from www.ok .gov/elections.
“At least two mail transactions must be made,” Schneider said.
“The county election board must mail the ballots to the voter, and the voter must mail them back to the county election board,” he said.
Ballots must be received by the election board by 7 p.m. Feb. 12 to be counted.
Any registered voter may vote by absentee ballot. Voters must be registered and reside at an address within the geographical boundaries of a school district or municipality to be eligible.

Kingfisher Police Chief Dennis Baker said several teens were jumping Thursday from the dam into the creek, which was swollen by heavy rainfall from the previous few days. One of the teens jumped in but did not resurface.
