Christmas meals slated at Salvation Army, Our Daily Bread

ENID, Okla. — Low-income residents and those without family in town need not spend Christmas alone or hungry, thanks to Christmas meals being offered at The Salvation Army and Our Daily Bread.

Our Daily Bread, at 616 W. Randolph, will open its doors as usual at 7 a.m. Christmas Day, and will serve dinner 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Volunteers also will take meals from Our Daily Bread to residents at Meadows Point Apartments.

Sandy Howard, director at Our Daily Bread, said the kitchen and its volunteers will serve the meal on Christmas, just like any other weekday, because “people’s stomachs don’t stop eating on Christmas Day.”

“There’s a lot of people out there who don’t have any place else to go,” Howard said, “and they need to have Christmas like anybody else.”

The Salvation Army of Enid, at 516 N. Independence, will serve a traditional Christmas dinner beginning at 6 p.m. Christmas Day.

Major John Dancer said the meal will include ham, sides and dessert.

He said the meal is special for regulars to the soup kitchen and people staying in the shelter, but anyone from the community is welcome for a meal and fellowship.

“The more, the merrier,” Dancer said. “Our doors will be open and all are welcome.”
