ENID —
Girl Scouts, local vendors and chefs will be teaming up Monday to offer a wide variety of Girl Scout cookie-inspired desserts, at the second annual Cookie Creations in Cherokee Strip Conference Center.
The dessert tasting, which will benefit Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma, will give the public a chance to taste at least 12 different desserts based on Girl Scout cookies, and to get a jump on purchasing their favorite cookie flavors.
Cookie Creations was started last year, primarily to raise awareness about and support for Girl Scouts, said Carla Burdick, community development executive for Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma.
“We had done something several years ago called Cookie Sensations, where the chefs served the cookie desserts in their restaurants, but this really gives the restaurants more exposure and gives more people a chance to try the creations,” Burdick said.
The Cookie Creations event involved six vendors last year. This year the event has expanded to include 12 chefs creating dishes with Girl Scout cookies.
Participating vendors this year are Angel Delight, Cakes by Diane, Costello’s, Door Step Diner, Ebby Stratton, G&P Bakery, Jubilee Bakery, Jumbo’s Bakery, Oakwood Country Club, Panevino, Sula and Vito’s and Sean Cummings Irish Pub.
Attendees will be able to taste dishes and desserts made by each of the vendors for a single admission fee of $5 per person, or $18 for a family of four. Children 2 and under are admitted free.
Girl Scouts also will be on hand to sell cookies, and cookie sales will continue through March 11.
Burdick said all proceeds from Cookie Creations will go to support Girl Scouts in the 39-county western Oklahoma region.
“We have been very fortunate this year and we have had several people help with expenses, so any funds that are raised will go to local Girl Scouts,” Burdick said. “The funds help the girls afford a uniform, books, their program materials and it enables them to do some trips and fun activities.”
Burdick said there are more than 1,000 girls involved in the greater Enid service area. By supporting those girls, Burdick said the public will help ensure sound leadership for the future.
“The mission of Girl Scouts is to ‘build girls of courage, competence and character,’ and that mission statement is why it’s important to support Girl Scouts,” Burdick said. “It’s about building our leaders of tomorrow, and by creating leadership, we’re teaching girls to discover, connect and take action.”
Cookie Creations will take place 5:30-7 p.m. Monday at Cherokee Strip Conference Center, 123 W. Maine. Tickets may be purchased at the door, or in advance at: Papa Murphy’s Pizza, 204 S. Van Buren; KOFM, 1710 W. Willow Suite 300; Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma, 319 W. Cherokee; and Enid Convention and Visitors Bureau, 123 W. Maine.
Burdick encouraged the public to come out to Cookie Creations to “experience the creations and to enjoy a fun evening.”
Recipes from the evening’s creations will be available to all who attend the Juliette Lowe Leadership Society Luncheon, which will take place March 1 at Cherokee Strip Conference Center.
