Fourth of July celebration slated in city park
COVINGTON —
Covington Fourth of July celebration will be held in the city park. A meal will be served at 5 p.m. Cost is by donation. At dusk, a fireworks display will be held. During the evening, games will be played including horseshoes, golf, things for children and young people. Covington Historical Society will host a bake sale and auction. Proceeds will benefit the Historical Museum. Those attending are asked to bring a lawn chair. The evening is sponsored by Covington Lions Club and American Legion.

The Covington swimming pool is now open 1-6 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. Night swimming is held from 6-8 p.m. Thursdays. Admission is $1.50. Children 3 and under and swim free.

On June 12 the Special Model T Club of Enid and Noble County Antique Tractor Association displayed their restored treasures at Cherokee Strip Museum in Perry. Melvin Carter of Covington is a member of the club and owns a 1924 Model T coupe. The group went on an 80-mile circular route from Perry to Billings, Garber, Covington and back to Perry, stopping at sights along the way.
School
This was the first year for the high school girls basketball summer league at Covington-Douglas, held the first part of June. Participating schools were Bluejacket, Mulhall-Orlando, Drummond, Oklaho-ma Christian Academy, Gage, Freedom, Olustee and Covington-Douglas.

A boys basketball summer league was held June 14-16. Participating schools were Bluejacket, Shilder, Waukomis, Drummond, Erick-Sweetwater, Hooker, Balko, Fort Supply, Mulhall-Orlando and Covington-Douglas. This was the second year for hosting the boys summer league. Each team was guaranteed three games for a total of nine games.

Covington-Douglas recently was host to a football passing league. Teams participating were Agra, South West Christian Academy, South Barber, Kan., Garber, Ringwood, Waukomis and Covington-Douglas.

The 8-Man All-Star football game will be Saturday in Miami. Covington-Douglas All-Star Justin Venard will be playing.
