ENID —
The next dean at Northwestern Oklahoma State University-Enid will be a face long familiar to the community.
Wayne McMillin, psychology instructor at NWOSU since 1997, has been appointed to fill the office after the departure of Cheryl Evans. Evans is moving to Tonkawa to take on duties as president of Northern Oklahoma College. Her final day as dean of NWOSU-Enid is May 31.
Evans is pleased with the announcement.
“I know he’s going to do a fantastic job,” Evans said. “He’ll have the best interest of the students and the faculty at heart and will be a vital part of the community.”
Evans predicted a seamless transition for the university.
“I wish him the best and I know that the campus is in good hands,” Evans said. “He’s familiar with the students, the faculty and the facility, and that will make for a really smooth transition.”
“I hope the transition goes really smoothly,” McMillin said. “She’s been a good leader for several years and as I follow in her footsteps, I look to continue having a great working relationship with her and with NOC.”
“We conducted a thorough search to select a new dean, and Dr. McMillin was the unanimous choice of the screening committee,” added Janet Cunningham, NWOSU president. “His strong background as a professor will serve our students well, and his personal characteristics make him a natural to represent Northwestern in the Enid community. I have every confidence in his ability to lead our Enid campus and move it forward in the coming years.”
McMillin graduated from Northwestern in 1988 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, then earned a master of arts from the University of Central Oklahoma in 1990. He completed his doctoral studies in 1995 at Oklahoma State University.
He joined the faculty at Northwestern-Enid in 1997 as an assistant professor and was promoted to associate professor in 2002. In 2007, he was promoted to the rank of professor.
“I look forward to working with the faculty and staff — and the Enid community,” McMillin said. “I am truly excited for the future of Northwestern in Enid.”
