2 injured in crash on U.S. 412

ENID, Okla. — Two men suffered minor injuries Wednesday in a two-vehicle collision at 54th and U.S. 412.

The collision blocked eastbound traffic as emergency workers investigated the accident and attended to the scene. Bobby L. Rogers, 53, was driving a 2007 Freightliner south on 54th across U.S. 412 when he struck a 2004 Dodge Dakota, being driven eastbound in the outside lane by 31-year-old Brian D. Grindle.

Grindle was transported by Life EMS to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center for treatment of possible head, body, arm and leg injuries. Rogers complained of a possible head injury but declined treatment.

Grindle told police he saw the tanker heading south on 54th and attempted to stop, but was only able to slow down. His Dakota struck the side of the tanker’s fuel tank after leaving a 73-foot skid mark on the highway, according to an Enid Police Department report. Rogers told police he did not see Grindle’s vehicle until it was too late.

Rogers said he swerved left in an attempt to avoid the Dodge, left the road on 54th and hopped the curb, traveled down the embankment and through the fence before coming to rest.
