A Coolidge Elementary School crossing guard was hit by a car Thursday afternoon, following the release of students from school. Marlene Jones, 78, was hit as she began to cross the street with her hand-held stop sign to stop traffic for a student. A car was turning off East Chestnut to head south on 16th, striking Jones.
When police arrived Jones was up and walking around in a yard near the school. School officials insisted she be checked out by medical personnel.
