4-year-old killed in East Garriott crash

ENID, Okla. — A 4-year-old Enid boy was killed Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle collision in the 2000 block of East Garriott, Enid Police Department reported.

Bretyn Snowden was taken to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center following the 7:40 a.m. collision, and then was transported to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City by air ambulance, according to EPD Capt. Jack Morris. Snowden was pronounced dead at 11:45 a.m. by the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office. Offi-cers determined the boy was not properly restrained in an approved child restraint safety seat.

Enid police responded to a 911 call of the injury collision involving two vehicles. Officers, along with Enid Fire Department and Life EMS personnel, arrived on scene and found the two vehicles.

One of the vehicles, a black 1997 Ford Expedition driven by April Kunkel, 28, was transporting four passengers ranging in age from 4 to 7. The other vehicle was a white 2001 Chevrolet 1500 driven by Charley Gault, 68.

Officers determined the Chevrolet had developed mechanical problems while westbound on Garriott, and Gault pulled to the far side of the outside lane, turning on his emergency flashers and coming to a stop. Shortly after the truck stopped, the Expedition struck the rear of the truck.

Gault was not injured, and Kunkel suffered injuries and was taken by Life EMS to St. Mary’s. Snowden was ejected from the rear seat into the front dash of the vehicle, suffering injuries to the head, trunk and arms. The other three passengers were not injured.

The accident remains under investigation by Enid Police Department Traffic Division.
