Northern Oklahoma College holds community resource fair

ENID, Okla. — Northern Oklahoma College offered one-stop shopping Thursday, for people who need information on a plethora of subjects.

Transportation assistance, help collecting child support, retraining for a new job when you are displaced from your old one, intervention or respite services for families with special-needs children, saving money on groceries — those are some of the things visitors to the third NOC Community Resource Fair had the chance to learn about.

A constant, steady stream of visitors came to meet representatives of community agencies. Nearly 300 students and community residents showed up.

Sandra Reese-Keck and Linda Isaak had a booth for their newly launched business, Aspire Oklahoma. They specialize in behavior analysis, specializing in working with children who have autism and other behavioral issues, starting with age 18 months.

“The main thing people don’t know we have in Enid is behavior analysis,” Isaak said.

Tawana Porter was at the resource fair on behalf of Community Development Support Association.

Porter is an integrative service specialist.

Working under the Workforce Investment Act program for adults and dislocated workers, Porter assists people with obtaining the education or training they need to retool themselves for new careers.

“We do help with up to $1,000 to help with expenses,” Porter said. “It’s case by case.”

She said she’s worked with a lot of people who formerly worked for StarTek and Continental Resources.

Stephen Glazier, director of counseling and career services at NOC, said Thursday’s resource fair was the best-attended one so far.

“Many of the agencies have expressed what a great opportunity it is to network with other agencies within our community,” Glazier said. “I would just like to publicly thank all staff members from the various community agencies that took part in the fair this year. The greater Enid area is truly fortunate to have such a wide variety of social service agencies available within our community.”
