ENID —
Two northwest Oklahomans were hospitalized after being injured in traffic accidents Sunday and Monday.
Lois Payne, 51, of Lamont, was hospitalized Sunday after being injured in a two-vehicle accident in Grant County. She was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan., and admitted in stable condition with leg and trunk injuries, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.
The accident happened at 9:35 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of a county road and Harmon Road in Grant County.
According to the report, Payne was a passenger in a 1993 Ford F150 pickup driven by Thomas Payne, 47, of Lamont, who was driving north on a county road. He failed to yield to a 2009 Ford Escape driven by Samantha Golay, 18, of Lamont. Payne’s vehicle was hit by Golay’s vehicle and rolled one-quarter time, according to the report. Thomas Payne was treated at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center and released.
Golay and her passengers, Karen Golay, 16, of Lamont, and Katie Starr, 15, of Lamont, also were treated at St. Mary’s and released.
Both Golays and Starr were wearing their seat belts, according to the report, but both Paynes were not.
In the other accident, Deveda Martin McWilliams, 77, of Burlington, was admitted to Kiowa (Kan.) Hospital after being injured in a 12:33 p.m. Monday accident on Oklahoma 11, one mile west of Oklahoma 8 in Alfalfa County.
McWilliams suffered head and trunk injuries and was in stable condition, according to an OHP report.
According to the report, McWilliams was westbound on Oklahoma 11 in a 2007 Ford when she slowed. A 1998 Mack truck driven by Michael Ray Calwonsen, 34, of Fairview, also was heading west and could not stop, according to the report. He swerved to the right, then left and hit McWilliams’ vehicle, spinning it into the south ditch.
The report listed the cause of the accident as unsafe speed.
