United Way has venture grants available

ENID, Okla. — United Way of Enid and Northwest Oklahoma has $30,000 available in venture grants for area nonprofits.

The funding is in addition to the regular funds provided to the 16 United Way member agencies.  

“We will be allocating over $30,000 this year for venture grants targeting measurable, identified social service needs in the community,” said United Way Executive Director Pamela Ballard.

A portion of the funds were raised through the Grown-Up Prom event, and are earmarked for programs targeting suicide or bullying prevention/intervention efforts, she said.

Applicants are required to present measurable data or other indicators that strongly identify the need for the service in the community and measure the impact their program will have in changing those numbers.

“Funding is getting tighter and tighter,” Ballard said. “We need to make certain programs that are being conducted are effective in actually creating sustainable change.”

Applications that address the underlying causes of a problem, and those that will impact the largest number of individuals are strongly encouraged, Ballard said.

“We want to see lasting changes in individuals and communities,” she said.

Any non-profit 501(c)(3) human service organization in Grant, Garfield, Major, Alfalfa or Kingfisher counties is eligible to apply.

Grant application forms are due April 1. Forms can be downloaded through the United Way of Enid & Northwest Oklahoma website at www.unitedwayenid.org/ grants.
