NWOSU to host tax workshop Jan. 15

Small-business owners can avoid headaches when tax time rolls around by better understanding tax reporting and planning.

To help business owners answer tax questions, a free workshop is slated 9-11:30 a.m. Jan. 15 at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Room 124, 2929 E. Randolph.

The workshop provides information on tax issues relevant to small businesses in an easily understood format, and covers current tax laws and reporting requirements.

Topics include business structures, registration, bookkeeping and business tax forms. Business owners also will learn the steps to filling out various business tax forms and which forms and tax laws have changed. Helpful tips on rate tables, reporting formats and exemptions also will be discussed.

“This is a great opportunity for business owners to get answers to their important tax questions,” said Jennifer Edwards, coordinator of REI Women’s Business Center. “This workshop will be a good investment of your time and may save you a lot of grief at tax time.”

Presenter is Dewey Brandon, Oklahoma Tax Commission. Brandon has been presenting workshops for the commission for more than 20 years. There also will be time for business owners to visit with Brandon and ask questions specific to their businesses.
