Advance Food Co. and NWOBI to sponsor blood drive Sunday
Advance Food Co. and Northwest Oklahoma Blood Institute will sponsor a blood drive Sunday.
The bloodmobile will be at David Allen Memorial Ballpark 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
Healthy Enid-area residents at least 17 years old can donate.
All donors will receive their choice of a free University of Oklahoma or Oklahoma State University T-shirt, along with free health screenings and Members for Life points to redeem at Oklahoma Blood Institute’s online store.

Lamont Alumni Reunion set Nov. 28
Lamont Alumni Reunion will be 5 p.m. Nov. 28 at the old gym in Lamont.
The reunion is for all graduates and classes ending in 9 and 0 will be honored this year. A pre-banquet coffee/social will 2-4 p.m. in Lamont Christian Church fellowship hall. Theme for this year’s banquet is “We Salute Our War Heroes.”
Featured speaker for the program will be Jake McNiece, a paratrooper who served with the 101st Airborne Division in World War II. He was a member and leader of the “Filthy Thirteen,” a group whose raids behind enemy lines inspired the movie “The Dirty Dozen.”
Copies of his book, “The Filthy Thirteen,” will be available. McNiece grew up in Ponca City.
The Nesselrode family will be featured entertainment. Robert G. Nesselrode will be master of ceremonies. Doris Nesselrode is in charge of the program and is a pianist/entertainer in the Ponca City area. She has released four albums. They have three living children, Karl, Sally and Robert Lynn, who also will perform.
Karl plays trombone, Sally plays piano and flute, and Robert Lynn is a vocalist and guitarist. He has written and recorded many songs, with several being featured on his CD, “Destination You.”

4 Flu clinics are slated this fall
Evans Pharmacy and Hospice Circle of Love nurses are teaming up this fall to offer flu vaccines.
Flu clinics will be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 29, Oct. 1, Oct. 6 and Oct. 8 at Evans Pharmacy in the Northgate Shopping Center, Willow and Van Buren. No appointment is necessary.
Medicare recipients will be given shots at no charge, but need to bring their Medicare Part B cards with them. People 18 and older without Medicare also can receive shots for $30.
Vaccines will be given on a first-come, first-served basis.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, the best way to protect against the flu is to get vaccinated each year. In years when the vaccine and the virus strains match closely, the vaccine can reduce the chances of getting the flu by 70-90 percent in healthy adults, according to CDC.
Hospice Circle of Love nurses gave out 650 flu shots at the vaccine clinic at Evans Pharmacy last year.
Grand opening of new Dollar General store is slated Saturday morning
Dollar General will have a grand-opening celebration for its new Enid store at 8 a.m. Saturday.
The company recently opened the store at 129 S. Oakwood.
At Saturday’s grand opening, customers will have a chance at special deals and free prizes. The first 50 shoppers will receive a $10 Dollar General gift card, and the first 200 shoppers will receive a Dollar General tote bag.
The 9,014-square-foot store features seasonal products in the center of the store. Dollar General also offers a focused selection of national brands and private brands of food, housewares, seasonal items, cleaning supplies, basic apparel and health and beauty care products.
The store employs approximately six to 10 people. Anyone interested in applying for a job at Dollar General can find information and a job application at www.dollargeneral.com.
