ENID, Okla. —
A frightened little girl’s trip to a haunted house made an engaging storybook when written by first-grader Tara Lee.
In “My Sistrs Frand,” Tara wrote about the day her sister, her sister’s friend, her mother and she went to a haunted house. A man in the haunted house frightened her sister’s friend so badly, the friend ran away and outside — where Tara’s mother had to chase after her to bring her out of the street.
Tara is one of 20 students in Melissa Ross’ first-grade class at Prairie View Elementary School.
“They each wrote their own book and we had their books published by Student Publishing Co.,” Ross said.
The classroom of young authors had a book-signing party Thursday afternoon. Seated at tables around the commons area, the little authors shared their books with guests and invited their guests to sign their pages. While the authors held court in the commons, guests went around the room having the children read to them and talk about their stories.
Each story is a memoir from a moment in the author’s life.
Tyler Wilson wrote “Mcachter,” about a visit to his grandmother’s house in McAlester. He had so much fun visiting, he didn’t want to leave.
Madison Shelton’s book, “My 1st Birthday,” tells the story of the birthday party when she was having lots of sweet fun, until she fell off her swing and broke her arm.
Samantha Payne also took a tumble from a swing. She wrote about it in her own book, “When I Fel Off My Swing.”
“My Hed Got Stuk,” by Alexa Bouziden, tells about the day her mother and she tried to get inside a house, but the key was with someone else. They had to settle for waiting in the chairs on the porch.
The other authors in the class are Cadence Berkenbile, Isabella Brown, Landon Collins, Ethan Cruz, Brier Gallaway, Caroline Hahne, Ricardo Gonzales, Emma Holland, Nora Morrow, Baker North, Bennett Percival, Grayson Phelps, Colyn Sodowsky, Raven Updike and Olivia Willson.
